Our breakfast room was busier than we anticipated, we were greeted by a group of 200 students on an EF tour from Oregon, 200 students! That's more than all of the students I have ever taken combined! Our breakfast was the same, scrambled eggs, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, toast, fruits and these amazing hashbrowns...(I may or may have not had four of them). We left our hotel for our last full day in England. It is truly hard to believe that our trip is almost over. I knew that we were all going to make the best of the day. It was meant to be because we walked out into a brilliantly sun-shiney day, the first full day of sun that we have had so far. Since it was Sunday,me had to wait for a bit until our double decker public transportation bus arrived. It was about an15 minute ride to the above ground regional transport train that took us to Victoria station where we caught the tube that took us to Churchill's War Rooms museum. This was fascinating and would normally take me several days to go through it thoroughly. Since we were a group,me were able to go into a separate entrance where we watched a brief film that showed a bit of what Lobdon was like just before these war rooms were put into place. Churchill actually only slept in this underground bunker 3 nights during the entire time that they were used. For the initial part of the war, Churchill made it a point to stay above ground to show the people of England that he was like them and had to "Keep Calm and Carry On". When the bombings of London began, Churchill's advisors decided that it was time to convert the basement areas below government buildings to a safe house, so to speak. We had audio guides and took about 90 minutes to go through. This is one museum that is on my list of things to do the next time I come to London. Once we gathered, we wove our way through the crowds of people who were cheering on the runners in the London Landmarks half marathon that was going on, and made our way to the London Tower. A majority of our group ate lunch at a cute English pub/restaurant. I had one more typical dish, a beef pie with mash, I wanted my last day to have much typical British food as possible. From here we picked up the last of our souvenirs and headed to the Tower museum. I met up with a long time friend from my time in France. It was as if we had just seen each other because we picked up conversation right where we left off. It was amazing how quickly our catch up time passed and the next thing we knew, she had to catch her train home. I met the rest of the group and we went for dinner, fish and chips. It was delish! Apple crumble for dessert, the perfect final trip meal in which to indulge. A quiet bus ride back to the hotel, we are all busy packing and attempting to figure out how to get all of our treasures back. Our travel day home begins at 4:30 tomorrow morning, so it is off to bed I go.
