Day 8, and then there were 9

Our day started by saying goodbye to the other two groups traveling with us. North Carolina left first, they were in the process of leaving when we arrived for breakfast. We were able to have a leisurely breakfast because we were not leaving the hotel until 9:30. We took a bus to the train station where we took a regional train to the London Tube. Thankfully that is a commute that we only have to do twice, today and tomorrow. The final trip took us about 75 minutes. Once we arrived in to London proper, we walked to the Imperial War Museum, FREE!, as most museums in England are. This museum has focus on World War I, life after, the holocaust and everyday heroes from the British world. It was a lot to take in during the 90 ,I mutes that we spent there. This trip has definitely been educational and moving. Our group divided and conquered, but most of us went to the holocaust portion. The kids and I went to the WWI and heroes displays of the museum. It still amazes me that our world survived and came together, forthe most part, after such atrocities. Hopefully our leaders today can actually learn from these valuable lessons from the past. Thankfully after the museum,me headed over to the Burroughs market, an enormous food hall where we grabbed some lunch. There are food stalls from almost every region/country imaginable! The three of us had duck confit sandwiches which were amazing! The fruit stalls were so colorful, again, these merchants have a way of displaying their produce in such an appealing way. The ten of us met up again and reenetred the Tube. Our destination this time was King's Cross station so that we could see the official Harry Potter platform at 9 3/4. The one for photos was incredibly long and the line for the shop was also stacked. A few people from our group went into the shop for some genuine HP merch. As we made our way through the various train stations today, we saw a tremendous amount of blue and yellow to represent the colors of the European Union. Today was the day for several important protests and demonstrations against Brexit. Despite the vote to leave the EU, a narrow win, the people are upset at the lack of plan for the upcoming deadline...March 28...there were signs, outfits, buttons, posters all protesting the Brexit. Unlike the protests that we heard about in Paris, mothered seemed to be rather tame and dignified, in other words, no damage. Dinner tonight was early and was at an Asian fusion restaurant, it was delicious. Probably one of the best meals and experiences that I have had during an EF tour. We were on the South Bank, a very popular area in London for food stalls, live music, drinks and general socializing on a Saturday evening. After dinner we walked over to the London Eye Ferris wheel. I spent the money to go since who knows when we will be able to go back and ride again?! We had a 40 minute slow and steady ride around the wheel, looking at the lights of the city come alive. We started during daylight and ended in the evening. It was definitely an experience to remember. We were meeting up at 7:30, thankfully not too long after we were off of the Ferris wheel, because the weather was much colder now than it had been. We had a brisk walk to meet our coach bus who would be taking us back to the hotel, no more trains today. Keep in mind, our group has gone from 52 to 10, so we looked pretty silly hopping into a greyhound type of bus. I didn't care because we didn't have to deal with anymore turnstiles today. Haha! Our bus ride back to the hotel tonight was uneventful, which was fabulous after last night's adventure. So for now, goodnight...15,800 steps logged today. No wonder I am tired. ;)
